Hey everyone!
2022 has been a whirlwind year for me with comics, and with just 3 months or so between now and the new year, I’m busier than I’ve ever been before!
As of this writing, I’ve got no less than 5 new series lined up for 2023 with several publishers, and I’m already hard at work on them all!
Everything is at different stages right now, and nothing is at the point where I can announce what exactly I’m working on, but what I can do is be part of the proud comics tradition of being super vague and referring to everything by a codename!
I hate coming up with clever codenames, so I’m naming them all after shoes. Sorry.
Here’s what’s in the pipeline:
Project Sandals
This one is for all you fans of ROAD OF BONES and SEA OF SORROWS! Alex and I are at it again, with a new historical horror book! What it is, and when it’s set exactly, I can’t talk about, but I do have the green light to let you know it’s coming, and will be announced hopefully soon! (I’d keep an eye out around NYCC time)
Project Boots
Another one that should be announced sooner rather than later, this is on a licensed property that I’ve been a fan of for a very, very long time. I’m coming on board to write a full arc, and things are going amazingly well! Diving into the history of a very complex setting/universe and getting to know all the cool nuances has been almost as fun as writing the book!
Project Slippers
This should be an interesting one, as it’s an OGN, not a series - there are certain things I can approach differently, knowing that the story is going to be told all in one place, and not serialized. This is my first attempt at writing a straight-up crime story, so it’s been a learning process on that end as well!
Project Steeltoes
I’m REALLY excited about this one - it won’t be out until the latter part of next year, but man, it’s one of the most fun ideas for a book I’ve ever had, and getting the pitch together was a blast. This is with a publisher I’ve never worked with before, and they’ve been awesome so far.
Project Sneakers
Another fun one! This one is a spy thriller that goes to some really crazy, unexpected places. I’m just gearing up to get started on it, and working on the outline with my publisher. Really looking forward to gettin it underway.
And that’s just what’s been confirmed… I have a few more series in consideration at various places, and might have to add some more shoe styles to this list before the year is out!
Aside from that, I’ll have a few surprises out between now and then - short things I’ve worked on with some characters I’ve been dying to get a crack at. More news on that end as the release dates get closer, but again, keep an eye out next month!
Newsworthy Newsletters
If you’re enjoying reading about my stuff, here are some friends and colleagues who also put out quality newsletters that I highly encourage you to check out!
Matt Rosenberg
When ISN’T Matt working on something cool? The answer is never. Whether it’s books like DC VAMPIRES or THE JOKER: THE MAN WHO STOPPED LAUGHING, or his original series like WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE with Tyler Boss, he’s a creator worth keeping up with! Subscribe here!
Tom Brevoort
Calling himself a non-entity is pretty emblematic of Tom, who, despite being a driving force at Marvel for decades, and helping to build more iconic runs and events than nearly anyone working today, remains humble and driven by a simple love for the art form and culture around it. If you ever wanted a peek behind the curtain at Marvel, or to hear stories about legendary creators, this is a great place to start. Subscribe right here!
David Pepose
I can’t very well rip off my friend David Pepose’s idea of giving all his works in progress cryptic code names without giving him a shoutout, now can I? David’s gone from a talented indie creator to working on some of Marvel’s most exciting titles, like SAVAGE AVENGERS, THE FANTASTIC FOUR, with much, much more cool stuff coming down the pipeline - get in now, so you can say you’ve been following him from the beginning! Until next time!
Hope to have another update in a couple of weeks, where I’ll talk about my plans for NYCC, and where you can see me throughout the con!
For now, just know I’ll be at Artist Alley Booth E-22, with my buddy Joe Mulvey, but I’ll also have signings and panels scheduled!
