Well, that’s it - 4 days (and nights) of absolute chaos, and NYCC is done. I had a great time, and wanted to start off by saying thank you to everyone who stopped by my table to talk, say how much they loved my stuff, and bought a book or issue.
I also want to give a shoutout to buddy Matt Miner, and his girlfriend Maribel, who were great tablemates all weekend long.
So how was it?
It was pretty great! The show was sold out every day besides Thursday, and it really showed, with so many people walking the floor and popping down to artist alley. It was a steady stream of folks from open to close, and I got to meet a TON of people who were new to comics, longtime fans, and everything in between.
I think I learned a bit about what to bring and what not to bring, at least to this show. The most popular things seemed to be collected editions and graphic novels. I sold out of SEA OF SORROWS and MAGIC: THE GATHERING, and aside from a few folks looking for missing issues in their runs of THE OCEAN WILL TAKE US and BREATH OF SHADOWS, most people weren’t buying singles.
That’s all good with me - it meant more stuff to lug home, but the next time I do this, I’m planning to bring more trades and just leave most of the singles home.
I did not take nearly enough pictures, but I did like this one of Jake Blues from the Blues Brothers digging the Drive Like Hell poster (his name is @babybelushi on Instagram, go check him out for some great cosplay)
I also got to hang with some awesome friends that I don’t get to see all that often. Got some great noodles with Joe Mulvey, Jed Mackay and Ed Brisson
And a couple of beers with Ryan Browne, Alex Cormack, and Joe Mulvey (again)
Overall I had an amazing time, and even brought my kids on Sunday, where I got to feel what it was like to have hair again, however briefly.
And that’s not to mention all the awesome meetings, meet-ups, and things I had to do at the con and around town afterwards. Let’s just say 2024 should be bringing some great new projects from me your way.
Speaking of which, I can happily announce that I’m doing a book next year with Vault Comics!
If you’re not familiar with the name, they’re an innovative independent publisher who has put out some of the most exciting and high quality books of the last few years.
I can’t talk too much about my project with them right now, but let me just say I am really excited to be working on it, after a long period of getting everything ready to make it a reality.
I’ve been working on the scripts for this over the past month, and the work is really flowing. I was talking to Adrian, my editor on this at the con, and said that I’m so familiar with the story I want to tell, it’s almost like I’m remembering the words rather than making them up as I go.
It’s a really good place to be while scripting, and I’m very happy with how it’s all coming out. This one will be a while coming out, but I promise you it’ll be worth it when it hits the stands.
Nothing much else to report other than I’m really excited about DRIVE LIKE HELL next week! Comic Crusaders ran a preview of the first 5 pages that you can read right here, and see just a little bit of the awesomeness coming your way!
Ok folks, that’s it till next time - hope you are all having a great spooky season!
