Hey everyone!
So, in the last newsletter, I told you I’d have a fun little surprise to announce this October, and here it is!
I had the pleasure of writing one of my favorite characters, GHOST RIDER, for Strange Tales, on the Marvel Unlimited App! And, it comes out this Wednesday, 9/26, just in time for Halloween!
On a lonely highway, Johnny Blaze faces some of his worst fears—the other Ghost Riders, Danny Ketch and Robbie Reyes! Who will come out on top in a knock-down, drag-out battle between Riders?
Needless to say, working on this made me extremely happy. Not only did I get to write Johnny Blaze, but I was also able to work the other Ghost Riders (and a couple more surprise guests) into the story for a knock-down, drag out fight on a deserted stretch of road, which I’m sure we can all agree is the perfect setting for a Ghost Rider tale!
I got to work with the excellent creative team of Ramon Bachs, Javier Tartglia, and VC’s Joe Sabino, as well as my editors Mark Basso and Drew Baumgartner, who all came together to make this a great experience.
INFINITE POSSIBILITIES
This is a Marvel Infinity Comic - for anyone unfamiliar, this means it’s a digital only release, that you’re meant to read on your phone or other device. It works like webtoons - rather than turning pages or jumping from panel to panel, it’s more like you just keep scrolling downwards to let the story unfold.
As a writer, wrapping my head around it was a little challenging at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I saw how it opened up a lot of cool storytelling techniques that wouldn’t be possible in a traditional comic - things like transitioning from scene to scene take on a whole other dimension that leads to some really fun and engaging visuals.
I pushed myself really hard to make the most of the format, and I think that will shine through once you get a chance to read it - I know not all of you subscribe to the Marvel Unlimited App, where you can read this comic for free, but if you’re interested in checking it out, here’s where you can get it on Apple or Google’s respective App Stores.
Once it’s out, I hope to do a more in-depth look at the process here, and talk more about what I really grew to love about the Infinity format. Needless to say, it’s really opened my eyes to some new storytelling possibilities, and I hope I get to do some more of them at Marvel, and maybe even on my own at somewhere like Webtoon.
☠️🔥💀
That's so exciting dude. I don't think we have Marvel Unlimited App here in Australia. But I'm sure it"ll be on the regular Marvel app sooner or later. You're kicking goals mate, and I'm here for it :)
