Hey everyone!
It’s been an eventful couple of weeks, with the release of The Ocean Will Take Us #1 on April 6th. My buddy Jeff at East Side Mags was kind enough to host an awesome signing on release week with me and Matt Miner, whose new book Poser just dropped as well!
We had an awesome time, meeting old fans and hopefully making some new ones! Aftershock Comics came out to support us with freebies and giveaways too!
THE OCEAN WILL TAKE US #2
And hot on the heels of issue #1, we’ve got an exclusive preview up for issue #2 over at Monkeys Fighting Robots! Here you’ll see Casey and Piper trying to get the goods on the swim team, and landing in detention for their efforts - but what if that was the plan all along?
Keep your eyes out for Issue #2 on comic book stands on May 11th - get your pre-orders in now!
What did you think of the first issue? I’d love to hear where the ocean took you, lol. Hit me up on twitter or in the replies here!
HAPPY HILL #3
There’s just a little over a day left to back HAPPY HILL #3 over on Kickstarter!
Our crazy roller coaster of a horror comedy continues, with our most gruesome and funny issue yet! If you prefer to get it in your shop, don’t worry, it will be there soon, but Kickstarter backers will be the first to see it, and the ONLY place to snag an exclusive limited metal cover variant!
Speaking of Kickstarters, I want to give a shoutout to my friend JD Oliva, who is currently running one for his new urban fantasy trilogy - The Wolfstone Saga!
JD and I go way back, all the way to when I first started publishing Gutter Magic, and learning the ropes of the industry over at Comics Experience. Since then, I’ve proudly watched as he’s grown into a prolific novelist, building his own urban fantasy universe with The Books of Jericho, and now Wolf Stone! Be sure to back the Kickstarter, and check out the rest of his work at his website!
On the Workbench
As far as writing goes, I’ve been pretty busy! First up was finishing the last issue of The Ocean Will Take Us, which I’m really happy with… more on that soon. I’ve also started working on a killer new project with Alex Cormack that’s been in the works for a while - you’ll be hearing about that pretty soon, and I have to say, if you’re a fan of our previous work together, this should make you very, very happy.
I also landed a really cool work-for-hire assignment with a major publisher, working on a character I really love. The art has just started to come in, and it looks amazing… can’t wait to share some of it with you, and I’ll be sharing some process thoughts on this one when it’s announced, as it was a really interesting challenge both in terms of the story being told, and the format we are telling it in.
That’s about it for now - until next time, keep an eye out for TOWTU #2, and if you can, please nominate SEA OF SORROWS, and the creative team (Rich Douek, Alex Cormack, and Justin Birch) for the Ringo Awards! Nominations are open right now, and anyone can vote - so you can really make an impact if you have the time!
All the best,
Rich
