Hey Everyone!
Been a busy couple of months, with both Heartpiercer and Mechagodzilla occupying my time, as well as a couple of secret projects coming out later this year. But between all that, every now and then I get to work on something wonderfully weird - like this custom X-Box Series X wrap to celebrate the launch of X-Men ‘97!
Corporate gigs like this come to me from time to time, and I usually don’t promote them on my own - I don’t know that anyone would find a comic where Captain America helps people get car insurance or something would be all that interesting to talk about – but this was just too much fun to keep to myself.
The idea was to create a custom console wrap that was an actual X-Men comic, featuring the main team from the series fighting Master Mold and an army of Sentinels - how could I say no?
Illustrated by the great Paco Diaz, colored by my buddy Chris Sotomayor, and lettered by VC’s Joe Caramagna, I had a great time taking these characters out for a very short spin, and am very hyped about being part of all the excitement around X-Men ‘97, in a very small way.
I wish I could post the full comic here for you, but I don’t want to get in trouble - maybe I can get away with a little screenshot of the first panel, though (keep it between us).
One cool thing: if you want a chance to win one, and you’re on X/Twitter, if you go and RT/Quote this tweet, you’ll be entered into a sweepstakes to win one, along with a sweet X-themed controller!
And if you DO win one, send me pictures, because getting one of my own wasn’t part of the contract, lol!
As I understand it, they only made about 50 of these, so I’m going to tentatively claim the title of writer of the rarest X-Men comic in existence (though I’m probably wrong).
Anyway, good luck if you try to win one, and see you back in a week or two to talk about Heartpiercer!
What a random gig! How does stuff like this come to you from time to time? Is it through the editors you know at Marvel? Do you have an agent?
