Hey everyone!
Summer’s almost done, but we’re going out with a bang, with two new books on the stands this Wednesday at your Local Comic Shop!
First up, is the series finale to THE OCEAN WILL TAKE US, with Issue #5!
This book was an absolute pleasure to write. I had so much fun with the characters, and creating my own little version of the Scooby gang, to investigate the nefarious goings on at Almanzar Bay.
In this issue, things come to a head as the team prepares to confront Brian’s father, Dr. Elgin, who seems to be at the very center of the conspiracy involving the cult, and Triton Oceanic. And once they have the plan in place, let me tell you things do not let up one bit, until the very end. Carlos Olivares, Manuel Puppo, and Dave Sharpe all deserve huge props for delivering a final issue, and entire series, that rocks!
Thanks to everyone who’s been on board with this series, and come out to support it. I’ve said before how writing it was a little bit outside of my comfort zone, but the response has been fantastic!
Next up, my biggest news last year was landing an issue of MARVEL’S WASTELANDERS, with WASTELANDERS: STAR LORD coming out just before the year ended, in December. Writing for Marvel was a dream come true, and I think that for a first foray into the Mighty Marvel Universe, it came out really well.
And, I’m finally going to be able to put it on my bookshelf! The collected edition of MARVEL’S WASTELANDERS is out Wednesday too, collecting not only my Star Lord issue, but stories featuring Logan, Black Widow, Dr. Doom, and Hawkeye! And yes, they’re all old!
If you missed the issue, I hope you’ll pick up the trade - I’m really proud of the work I did with Brent Peeples, Cris Peter, and Josemaria Casanovas.
That’s it for me, on the stands, but here’s some work by good and talented friends that’s coming your way, too!
First up, FOREVER FORWARD, by my friend Zack Kaplan - a super fun time travel adventure that is a great start to what I’m sure will be an amazing series! Time travel is pretty hard to do well, but honestly, Zack makes it look easy here!
Next is HELL IS A SQUARED CIRCLE, from Chris Condon - it’s a supernaturally tinged wrestling noir, which, if you’ve read Chris’ work in THAT TEXAS BLOOD, you know is something he will do very, very well. It’s not out for a few weeks yet, but now is the perfect time to let your shop know you want a copy. The only problem with the book? It’s a one-shot, and I want more!
Also, a couple of Kickstarters I’d love for you to check out:
First up is MONSTER MATES, from Frazer Campbell and Steve Gregson - a funny, touching coming of age story, with just a tinge of horror, as the main characters all happen to be monsters!
Frazer is part of a writing group I participate in, and I’ve seen this project take shape from outline, to script, to a beautiful book, and I couldn’t be more hyped to see it succeed!

And, from Comixtribe, who puts out my book with Joe Mulvey, HAPPY HILL, comes A FISTFUL OF PAIN, by Ryan K. Lindsay, and Louie Joyce. It’s an over-the-top, sci-fi Kung Fu masterpiece, that I’m sure you’ll dig. Ryan’s an amazing writer, and Louie is just as great in the art department. And since it’s a comixtribe book, you know you’ll be getting a beautiful, die-cut hardcover that will look amazing on your shelf!

That’s it for this week, friends. I hope you’re enjoying the last few days of summer, and making big plans for the fall! I know I am >:)
