Hey Everyone!
Hope your summer is off to a great start. We had a great 4th of July over here that I spent drinking day beers, smoking meat, and watching our town parade roll by from my porch.
I’ve been busy the past couple of weeks getting ready to talk about A PHONE CALL AWAY, my new OGN with Russel Mark Olson at Mad Cave Studios. It’s out in stores on August 6th, but Mad Cave let me know they’ll have some copies available for me to sign at SDCC - so if you’re going to be there, and want a chance to read it before anyone else, swing by their booth!
APCA represents a couple of firsts for me; my first book released as an OGN instead of in issues, and my first foray into crime stories, with no weird or supernatural elements… writing it was definitely a different experience for me than my usual comics.
On the issues vs OGN, I was still thinking in terms of chapters, which would correspond roughly to where I would break the narrative for issues - but it was way more fluid in that I didn’t have to constrain any particular chapter to a set number of pages like I would in an issue, where there’s only so much space.
In terms of wilder elements, it was a challenge - I mean I’m particularly known for horror featuring blood-curdling monsters, and wild sci-fi and fantasy worlds! But this story is not about any of that, and I think it’s compelling and gripping enough not to need any of those additional elements to make it cool.
I really enjoyed writing straight up crime, and I want to get back to the genre as soon as I can.
As for what else is cooking, stay tuned next week as I launch a new comics-related project of my own on TikTok and Instagram. It’s gonna be a lot of fun, and I’ll talk more about it when I launch, but suffice to say, if you’re not following me on those platforms yet, go ahead and do so, and don’t miss the first video!

I've got two days at SDCC this year (my first time there!) and it looks like I've got another stop to add to the agenda!
Looking forward to APCA!
